liked the story, not the writing style - felt a bit didactic / repetitive.

some parts i was like i get it! the message was clear without all this explanation

i loved the build up to the ending! the last few pages themselves were fine but i really like the about 20 pages before that!!

also i’m australian and the australia part felt off to me, it was definitely my least favorite life (not just abt the life, mostly  abt the australia weirdness or whatever)

also i feel like the brother being gay was weird. like not the fact that he was gay. like half of me is like casual rep! and the other half thinks something weird happened. like it’s mentioned at weird times like i get it, he’s gay. (in a “this is weird timing way” not in a “stop shoving queerness in ppls faces way”!! please shove queerness in my face) just felt kinda weird like he was just gay to have a gay character. i’m sure matt haig’s intentions were good tho!
