There is an old house on a hill. It once was grande but now is in disrepair. Once upon a time, a woman lived and died there. Now, 100 years later, a young girl discovers her diaries. And the djinn in the house remembers.

I loved the writing style. It is poetic. It is lyrical. It is the perfect frame for the story. The characters are fleshed out and even the unsympathetic characters have plausible motivations.

The Djinn Waits a Hundred Years describes how loss and grief can preoccupy our lives. From the two best friends who no longer speak with each other. To Sana, the main character, who is haunted by her dead sister's ghost. To a magical being being stuck in stasis for a century.

It is also a story of how we can be freed by talking with each other about our sorrows.
