Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff

It is a very "safe" young adult novel that doesn't take many risks. You have a girl growing up, dealing with her family and love problems, and learning to question authority. The story is a fun and engaging read and the most unique aspect is the Japanese steampunk aspect. The author's use of Japanese language in the novel is awkward and usually incorrect, but it doesn't affect the story in any way. The love triangle is somewhat contrived, but the heroine's relationship with her father is endearing and she is believable. All in all, it's a fine book, but it doesn't take any risks.
