Cloud Atlas
by David Mitchell
This was an impressive text, and I'm left wondering if I would have liked it more or less if I had not seen the movie first. Putting aside the difference between the books Matryoshka format and the movie's mosaic there are real tonal differences in the films resolutions.
Of the six acts I found 5 of them mesmerizing through the 1st acts, and 3 of them delightful in their second acts, but in three cases felt the second acts struggled a little bit. This might be because I knew where things were going from the film, or because of the aforementioned tonal differences.
Still, this is an argument whether the highly engaging and readable text is a 4 or a 5.
