In a world of dragons, a cruel class system, and growing tensions, Vivien Featherswallow's dreams of attaining an internship as a dragon language translator are burnt to a crisp, literally, when she's betrayed by those she trusts and pushed down a path Viv had never anticipated.
While an interesting concept mixing Babel with UK WWII codebreakers, this story was let down by a weak protagonist, with Viv being dragged along by things around her rather than actively guiding the story. The betrayal side in codebreaking the dragon's sacred sonar system was too awful for me from a moral viewpoint, too.
