The Graveyard Book
by Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman is at least partially responsible for my insomnia, because once I pick up a book of his, I can't put it down. The Graveyard Book was no different -- I read it in one sitting. I love the blend of gothic and macabre archetypes that he paints in his own imaginative way throughout the book, which is a loosely connected, but cohesive, series of short stories.
Reading this, I felt there was a strange similarity to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, although I can't put my finger on exactly why. Although I realize this is meant as a stand-alone work, and I do like how it ended, but I think this universe could be expanded on for further adventures.
