An average thriller.

The Drowning Woman is told from multiple POV. Harding paints the two main characters as troubled women who are being manipulated by abusive men. The narrative is meant to read as though both woman find their strength in the end, but I ultimately felt like they both prioritized a man and ended up supporting each other when their respective romances started to sour.

The writing is solid. It’s descriptive, with less dialogue than I usually prefer, but the writing paints a great picture for each “scene” and it didn’t drag like some narrative-heavy books can. It’s a quick book and the pace kept me engaged.

There were times where I was holding my breath to see what would happen in the beginning, so it was a good thriller in that regard. However, there were many safe choices and several conveniently placed events that interrupted potentially defining moments later in the story, taking away from the intense, nerve-racking vibe.

This is a decent, quick read for those very interested in thrillers or those new to the genre.
