i had certain expectations for this book, and it failed to meet most of them. i thought the main character was the one that the summary of the book focused on, but most of the chapters were about the other character who was presented as secondary. this book was fine for what it was literally, but it failed to meet about any of my expectations.

i will say on the positive side, the ending did resolve a lot of the feelings and storylines, but it wasn't necessarily satisfying. the ending did do what an ending is supposed to do as you learn in English class, but oh boy did i want more.

this was marketed as a horror book to me, and it was anything but. nothing scared me. most of the chapters are set in the past and don't appear to have a connection to what is supposed to be the main story for the longest time. i didn't like the characters, they weren't alive for me. i liked that the author had the trigger warnings, but those also didn't really feel right.

the fatphobia in this book is actually astounding. you published this in 2024 and still had that much hate toward something that even after getting the reasoning is still unwarranted? absolutely not. miss me with that bullshit. please never ever write about that again if you can't do it correctly and respectfully.

overall, i don't really recommend it. not worth the time to read especially with how it felt like pulling teeth to finish. it wasn't unfinishable, but it was rough there.
