This story is truly heartbreaking. Addie’s desperate choice to escape a life she never wanted, only to face a curse of being forgotten by everyone she meets, pulls at the heart deeply. It’s a stark reminder of how much society has changed, especially regarding the roles and freedoms expected of women.
The prose is beautiful and vivid, creating a rich and immersive experience. However, some parts felt repetitive and could have been edited down for a tighter read.
Watching Addie grow and adapt over centuries is fascinating. The way time shapes her, softens some parts of her character, and forces her to find new ways to live is powerful. It made me realize how resilient people can be, learning to live with even the hardest circumstances when they truly want to survive.
Overall, this book is a moving exploration of memory, identity, and what it means to leave a mark on the world—even when no one remembers your name.
