Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs
3.0

2.5-3*. Not exactly a literature classic, but was entertaining. I picked this up because this author wrote 24 books in this series, so I suppose there had to be something appealing in here. And yes, seeing how Tarzan was raised by apes was fun. The "romance" with Jane was ridiculously cute. I could see this being the huge fan fav of young adults swooning over his adventures. I had to suspend my disbelief that Tarzan was able to teach himself how to read (seriously?), but yet never heard nor could speak a language. Still, if you want an escape into a jungle from the safety of your couch, swing in the trees, pull pranks on the aborigines, learn how to be human, and stick it to the bad guy, you'll enjoy this jaunt. I would definitely recommend for a preteen as a great adventure story, and if they like it, they can follow the tale for many books to come.
