Orphan Monster Spy

I don’t really know what to say to that book. I picked it up with incredibly high expectations, given that it features the topics I am most interested in, namely World War 2 and the Nazi regime, especially the way young people such as me experienced this time. Maybe the problem is that I have read to many books on these topics and know to much about it to forgive some mistakes authors make. A novel about these things needs to be really good to capture my attention and make me feel the shock and deep sadness I am used to feel while reading books like this.
First of all, I was somewhat annoyed by the strange German things Sarah thinks to herself. Being German myself, I am very well able to understand the strange slurs she uses, and- just as an example- I can’t really believe that a teacher (no matter which horrible political opinions she wants the students to believe) would ever call a student „stupid bitch“ or something like that. But that’s just a little part of why I didn’t like the book. I guess it’s just that I found it boring at times, especially when I finished it and realised that it didn’t give me anything.
