Roses Have Thorns: Being the first book in the Flower of Scotland Mysteries by Juliet MacLeod

5.0

A long overdue review for a novel I read earlier this year. I will start by prefacing that cozies normally aren’t my vibe, but I enjoyed this story which centers around a quiet, small-town flower shop. After a shocking death rocks her sleepy town, local florist Juniper begins to believe that the murderer is using her to send warnings to future victims...via the language of flowers. Could she end up on the killer’s list herself, due to her suspicions?

MacLeod does an excellent job of weaving a large cast of likable characters into the story. The narrative moves at a brisk pace, but still leaves time for those quiet, softer moments cozies are known for. This is a wonderful opening installment to a new series, and I look forward to reading more in the future.
