Rhythm of War stretches its muscles best in developing the science of Roshar. We get to see the inner mechanations of spren, stormlight, and other energy sources. As much as this book covers the blossoming war between the Fused and the Radiants, it also is a race to recover what has been lost: progress, ideals, and, above all, knowledge. Brandon Sanderson does his best work showing all sides of war, that it is rarely as simple as heroes and villains. I enjoyed the character development of old favorites as well as new characters that joined this book. It's definitely a bit slower than some of the other Stormlight Archive books, but there are great moments that pull the book together in a way that's satisfying. My only consistent critique is that, though the moral messages of the books are always good, the lines that deliver these morals can feel very blunt and a bit cheesy. Not the worst sin in the world, but it's something I noticed more in this book than in previous ones. Once again, Sanderson delivers a whirlwind adventure in a fantasy world that stands apart from all others. I'll always recommend him.
