I'm reluctantly giving this 3 stars. I say reluctant because it ended very strongly and so left me feeling that I enjoyed more than, in balance of probability, I actually did. The first 2/3 of the book was very slow. Interesting, but slow. Bearing in mind that it clocks in at over 900 pages and that's an awful lot of slow. As I said, once it got going the final third was excellent, though.
