Where the Dark Stands Still by A.B. Poranek
5.0
What drew me to this book was the beautiful cover's artwork. Then I read the description and was intrigued. I started this on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't put it down. Then I read more after dinner and before bed and was able to finish it last night. The protagonist, Liska is a kind, caring, wears her heart on her sleeve, but smart and strong female character. She was raised by a healer but Liska has magic of her own that has caused her to be outcasted and shunned by her family, friends, and village. Somethings have happened in her past and how she's been treated and made to feel about her magic, she wants to get rid of it. She runs into the forest in search of a particular flower. There she finds the Leszy, who is a forest demon with antlers. She makes a deal with him to live with him for a year and then he will be rid of her magic. Then the magical story begins. It was a Ghibli movie, with a Polish folklore, and Grimm's fairy tale all wrapped into one. I enjoyed it so much!
