The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie

4.0

The Mysterious Affair at Styles was Christie’s first novel. She wrote it during the middle of World War I and it was published in book form in 1920. Like some other classic writers such as Dickens, this novel actually first appeared in serial form. In this novel we are introduced to the famous detective Hercule Poirot. There’s an interesting feature about this book: it includes a map of a house, a picture of a burnt fragment of a will, and a picture of some scribblings found on an envelope – all of these from the story of course.

Christie's writing is this first novel of hers is excellent. The mystery was well crafted and kept me guessing. The book definitely held my attention and is one of my favorite of the Christie novels I’ve read so far.
