Cinder by Marissa Meyer
4.0
I'm always a little hesitant to start a new young adult series, because what if it's just awful? But this came highly recommended to me by a friend whose reading interests are very similar to mine, so I gave it a whirl.
I'm glad I did! It's a fun, semi-whimsical/semi-dark take on the Cinderella story, set in a very sci-fi sort of future. Cinder is a gifted mechanic, and I love to see female characters who are skilled at things that too often are considered "for boys". She is also a cyborg.
The story moves fast and ends in an abrupt cliffhanger, setting the reader up for the next book in the series, which I'll definitely be reading. I'm looking forward to more fairy tales fused with a highly technological society.
