Foundation by Isaac Asimov
3.0

I'm typically not an audiobook guy, mainly because I find it hard to retain books in that format. I need to sit down and sink into a physical book, but I have never quite been able to do that with Foundation. So I had to supplement this "re-read/retry" with the audiobook, which was difficult in itself.

As a sci fi novel, it is certainly what it says on the tin; foundational. Really cool concepts, ideas and themes, but told in a dry, academic and quite frankly, boring way. Bland characters with no real soul. These ideas have been done in much more engaging and compelling ways since the 40s. Even still, it's amazing when you think that these ideas were conjured 80 years ago; before the internet, before computer databases and before we even considered going to space. Mind-blowing!

Just not a very entertaining read.
