at 26%, I can not rate this low enough.
This was biggest load of steaming fucking garbage I’ve ever had the displeasure of attempting to read.
We start off with bad grammar in the trigger warning!! Twice!
The trigger warnings and the editor couldn’t take two seconds to check that the grammar wasn’t horrendous.
Next we open into some of the most convoluted and confusing character introductions I’ve ever seen. Why am I at chapter four wondering why two characters have the same name?! Oh I see it’s because you made absolutely no effort to distinguish the fmc intro from the mmc intro. Got it. Now we have the fmc with more names, alias, nicknames than I can count. Excuse me… Bun? Gag! 🤢
Then the entire first 6 chapters is watching the fmc be a walking gushing **** trying to get fucked three ways from Sunday by STRANGERS SHE MEETS ON A PLANE?!!!
Then he hates her so much (because he knows she’s incompetent and will get good soldiers killed) he attacks her, takes his knife and cuts her whilst his squad help him, sexually assaults her and she fucking loves it!???!
I’ve read some dark romance in my time and I’m pretty comfortable with most settings but this? Not only was it wildly offensive to women in positions of military, debasing them to little more than fleshlights but this was a tacky excuse to talk about getting railed whilst using weak, unimaginative contexts to barely hold the story together!
If it had been labeled erotica I’d have expected the weak literary performance that comes with porn but it isn’t.
And don’t get me started on how many people this chick would have got killed by being out on tactical and spending her time being a sopping wet gash thinking about, you guessed it, getting railed again! Add to that her propensity for crying and being just a sensitive girly and I hated every fucking second of this unrealistic bullshit. She’s supposed to be a hardened, professional murderer not a cry baby that can’t handle being hazed in a predominantly male workspace. It was dog shit!
The simple fact is she doesn’t have the personality or grit to make it through basic with these character flaws let alone through early military life, into spec ops. She’s a walking liability that would have gotten herself killed many times over behaving that was on tac practices.
And no I will not chill out. Just because “it’s fiction” does not mean you get to take real things and bastardise them just so you can use it in your book as another door opener to lazy, tactless sex scenes with no meaning or merit. That’s what porn is for!
