Feathers So Vicious
by Liv Zander
DID NOT FINISH: 20%
Feathers So Vicious certainly has an intriguing premise, and I was initially drawn in by the promise of a dark, gritty fantasy world. Liv Zander has created a unique setting with plenty of potential, and I can see why this book would appeal to readers who enjoy darker themes and intense dynamics.
Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me. I found the early tone quite confronting, with repeated mentions of rape and non-consensual intent from the male characters that made it difficult to stay immersed. Personally, I prefer my dark fantasy with more emotional nuance and less explicit threat, especially so early on.
The writing style moved quickly—perhaps too quickly for my taste—as I struggled to piece together the world and the characters’ backstories by the 20% mark. I was left feeling a little disoriented and unsure of what was really happening or why.
That said, I can see how fans of Liv Zander’s previous work or readers who enjoy fast-paced, taboo-heavy romance might find this to their liking. It just wasn’t quite the right fit for me.
