Whew, this book put me through all sorts of emotions. I had to pause every now and then to ask myself some questions. Although this is historical fiction, the trajectory and experiences of these women could easily be set in 2023. It's wild to have their stories reflected in current times. I was kind of tense listening to this book because each character is ONE decision away from complete ruin. So it was hard to not anticipate what might happen next. Their stories are woven intricately and interestingly. I thought about this book for a long time after I finished it. It had a profound impact on me and I'll definitely be reading more from Sadeqa Johnson.
