Endymion Spring by Matthew Skelton

4.0

Very interesting premise--modern day American boy visiting England finds a book of blank pages that only he can read. Turns out it has magical properties and it's the diary of Endymion Spring, an apprentice to Gutenberg in 1450-whenever. Story alternates between Endymion's diary entries and Blake's adventures--which are full of action and magic and spooky bookshops full of dusty books. I had a couple of quibbles about minor things that I can't remember now (oh, the main character says a couple of things that a Yankee would not say, or says them in the British way, but I doubt many people would notice that) but it's a first novel and a lot of fun. Interesting twist on the Faust legend, too.
