Lord of Lies by Amy Sandas

2.0

This book hooked me instantly, but lost steam along the way.

I really enjoyed that the action kicked off immediately at the beginning, and I personally love when romance novels have some danger in them.

But as the book went on a few things began to bother me. First, there were pieces of dialogue and situations that felt too modern and took me out of the time period. I don't need my historicals to be 100% accurate, but I'd prefer the characters to at least act like they're in that time period.

There were also situations that required too much of my suspended disbelief, such as the main character frequently sneaking in and out of her home (something she'd never done before) and never getting caught or questioned.

As I got deeper into the story, I found my interest slipping and I'd end up skimming paragraphs rather than reading them.

I wanted to be gripped by the characters and the story, but it just didn't work for me.
