Gorgeous Monster
by Charity Ferrell
This story gave me Helen of Troy vibes, mafia style. Natalia made the mistake of dating one of the most ruthless mafia princes in New York. What she didn’t realize is that you can never just leave a mafia man. Her second and third mistakes were when she did leave Vinny Lombardi and ran to her best friend’s father for help. Problem is Christian Marchetti is a rival mafia family don. Little did Natalia know that Christian saw his opportunity to use Nat as a pawn to take down Vinny, hopefully without waging a war. She ran from one monster to another.
Let’s unpack these characters. Christian is cold, hard, and somewhat heartless in his demeanor. He keeps his emotions in check, but not so much his anger. Natalia is naive and IMO makes horrible decisions. Even though she wears Christian down and opens him up, she still acts immature at times. I just couldn’t relate to her and how quickly she becomes submissive. Vinny is without a doubt unhinged, calculated, and power hungry. He won’t let Nat go without a fight. She will either belong to him or be dead. I’ll mention Benny Marchetti last. He is Christian’s son and more of a side character in this book. Honestly, I was more intrigued by Benny out of all the characters. I was kinda crushing on Benny, but I also feel bad for him with his prearranged future. I am looking forward to more of Benny and his fiancé, Neomi. I think that is going to be a wild ride.
I do love the dark and dangerous side of a mafia romance. I will say this book got better in the second half. The mafia aspect of it was a little light. The steam was certainly on point. The chemistry between Natalia and Christian was better in the second behalf as well. I just had a hard time with how fast things moved between them.
