Dead Woman Walking by Sharon Bolton
4.0
I liked it. This, like many of Sharon Bolton's books, was a solid thriller with twists and turns, and a language that is easy to get into and appreciate. What I like most about Bolton's books is how EASY they are to read. They're not simplistic — far from it, in fact — but it never takes long before you get sucked into the story and the characters are always solid.
This time around, I have to say that the plot was... well, it would be wrong to call it a letdown, but I did figure out every single twist before it happened. Every single one. I think this is mainly because this book has elements from several of Bolton's other books, wrapped up in a new cover. It's not bad by any means — the story is a new one — but, since I've read a bunch of her books, I've seen what kind of twists Bolton likes to use. A lot of them were reused in this book, which was why I could spot them so easily.
That said, I still enjoyed the story. It could have been more exciting, sure — knowing the twists did make it a little more tedious, waiting for things I had already figured out to be revealed — but it wasn't a bad experience. There were certain elements I found to be a little unbelievable or just too conveniently convenient, but that's also usual for Bolton, so I'm not surprised.
All in all, a book worth reading. For the nuns, if nothing else. The nuns were amazing.
