So surprised at how much I loved this! It was so good. I got it because of a fanart I saw, and it was so worth it. The world building was amazing, and learning more about the world as Raina did was a masterclass in writing. I loved that Raina was born mute, such an interesting twist, and I loved how she was able to exist just fine despite the “difficulties” she has. Using sign as a way to communicate, but still showing there are those that didn’t care to learn? Ugh. Made me so mad but also was such a good way to show accessibility.

Alexus is so sweet but also doesn’t deal with Raina’s bullshit, which I appreciated. Raina is allowed and even encouraged to rage and grieve, but when she is acting like a child he called her out on it. I hate when men are just expected to bend over everytime a woman shows emotion in books, and this was perfectly done. He never belittled her, but he did tell her to grow up a little and act more mature, since she didn’t know everything.

Also, the comment when Alexus grabbed her hands and she mentioned that Finn would do that to shut her up but with Alexus it was totally different made my heart SWELL.
