Noggin by John Corey Whaley
4.0

I really enjoyed Noggin, but was it was not what I thought it was going to be AT ALL. After reading the description, I thought it sounded funny, and it WAS funny, though most of that was due to John Corey Whaley's wit and charming, fully realized/awesome characters. The writing was great, and I absolutely devoured the book (read it in two sittings), but damn, was it sad! I mean, imagine if your best friend had died (of cancer) at 16, and he CAME BACK when you were 21...but he was still 16. There is a lot of heavy stuff about the past, and how to live a meaningful life, and you know, CANCER and I probably cried about 20 times. Basically, any scene with Travis' (the main character's) parents was bound to have me sobbing. As an adult, I typically recommend YA books to other adults, but this one would have been AWESOME to actually read as a teen as there are many Very Important Life Lessons. If I could, I'd give it 4.5 stars, and I'll definitely be checking out Whaley's other book.
