Is Gender Fluid?: A Primer for the 21st Century
by Sally Hines
Incredible, accessible and interesting book. I really enjoyed the general overview of the topics the book covered, and whilst it touched on a lot of things I’ve already learnt through my studies, it was refreshing to see them shaped in a way that someone outside of sociology / gender studies could easily digest. I really enjoy Sally Home’s work and was really happy to see that she was the author to write this book, especially after recently reading her chapter in ‘theorising intersectionality and gender’: ‘Sexing Gender; Gendering Sex: Towards an Intersectional Analysis of Transgender,’ which I would highly recommend. I love to see sociological work and studies being made more accessible for everyone, without using needlessly pretentious words for affect, and this book does just that - I can’t recommend enough. The use of pictures and different sized text / fun visuals was engaging also, however sometimes distracting due to the different sized fonts and their position on the page. I understand where they were trying to go with this, however it was a tad distracting at times - other than that, love it !!!
