It was while scrolling through Kindle Unlimited that I first stumbled across Morsels. With fantastic cover art, along with a free download, it was a no-brainer that I picked this one up, and while it didn't blow me away, I'm still glad I gave this book a chance. Firstly, the suspense within these pages is great, and when I started reading it, I had no idea where the novel was going. The pacing, action sequences, and horror elements were also well done, but sadly, the character-building, depth of the story, and ending were not so good.

Connie is joining her new boyfriend Evan on a road trip to finally meet his parents. She's told that his family is cold and standoffish, so both Connie and Evan are surprised when they're greeted with smiles and warm embraces. But after sneaking around the house, Connie finds something alarming in the basement. Something that makes her realise the family upstairs is not at all who they say they are.

The middle section of the novel is okay, but it lacks a lot of substance and the family dynamics that are so central to the story never go full circle, making it feel almost an unnecessary element. Then we get to the end of the novel where everything very suddenly stops. There's no explanation for the absurdities happening to Evan's family, or the origin of the invaders. We never know where they came from, what they wanted, and why they settled on hunting down Evan's family. Sometimes, an element of extended mystery works for books, but with this one, it felt like too many doors were left wide open.
