Ashes of You by Catherine Cowles

4.5

Perfect way to end the series.

“Every man I meet, I wonder if it’s him…you’re different. You saved me”

This was probably my favourite in the series. And although, once again it followed a fairly formulaic format just like the previous books, it was an engaging and fast paced story.

“The eyes that had shown me kindness after enduring thirty-three days of brutal cruelty…the eyes that had saved me”

Loved the dynamic amoungst the boys and Hallie. They were all just so pure and could tell that it was just what they needed to bring their family back together again.

“Everyone has a battle, an inner war they hide from the world. It’s good to remember that”

As the last book in the series I really wish there was a big jump forward to see where all the next generation were. And if Charlie & Cary ended up together in the end.

Just the perfect level of forced proximity and forbidden romance.

“I’d just have a walking tempting living right across the hall”

There were a number of red herrings (as usual). There was a particular character I questioned in a previous book (for good reason). One thing these novels got me to do was to question EVERYONE. Sometimes made it difficult to like certain characters because you just never know.

Love the little quirks of the boys. Especially Drew acting like a little Casanova.

“Plus, think about how many babe I’ll get with a puppy”

Each of the books in the series had the classic ending (engagement and babies). I know that’s not for everyone but you can’t argue that they don’t deserve a HEA after everything they all go through.

“I can go through all the emotions in a book, but its safe somehow”
