I think this book is best read in quick succession after City of Ruin, as it picks up moments after the end of the previous story. It took me a while to ease back into the plot and remember all of the characters after reading the second book almost a year ago. There is a lot of borderline info dumping early on but you definitely need the context of the other books to make sense of it. This is very much the second-film-in-a-trilogy book of the series, serving mostly to move characters into position for the next big plot push. There were some revelations that felt almost too convenient, clearly happening to move things along, but I don't think it would've been as jarring if City of Ruin was more fresh in my mind. I'll definitely have to do a full series reread before the fourth book comes out next month.bAll that being said, I love the way Charissa writes and I enjoyed reading this.

I'm not a huge fan of "spicy" as a book term after my formative years in the fanfiction trenches, but the booktok girlies would like this one. Compared to the main couple in the other books these two are more forward and vulgar; it was fun, but not gratuitous. The book does end somewhat abruptly after a particularly steamy rendezvous, but again I think that's just how the series feels to me and all of the books make sense as an unbroken line.
