Ida McKinley: The Turn-Of-The-Century First Lady Through War, Assassination, and Secret Disability by Carl Sferrazza Anthony

4.0

William and Ida McKinley sound like such a cute couple. He was absolutely devoted to her as she was to him. Ida had a lot of tragedy in her life (lost 2 children, husband assassinated, ongoing health issues) and I really felt for what she went through. I thought it was cute that she almost always referred to her husband as “the Major” - a moniker she used after meeting him for the first time when she couldn’t recall anything about him other than his military rank. I thought the book got a little overly detailed in some spots, but it was interesting to learn more about a First Lady I wasn’t really familiar with at all.

**read for book scavenger hunt: read two books - one fiction and one nonfiction - about the same subject/person (nonfiction - Ida McKinley)**
