Another good rom com from Abby Jimenez. This one was quite a bit heavier and more angst filled than Part of Your World, and a lot of that angst made much of the book a bit unrealistic in an over the top way. Man with severe social anxiety and unwavering devotion to put other peoples’ needs before his own decides to fake a girlfriend? That probably would’ve caused him more anxiety than the family scrutiny. Girl with trust issues agrees to fake relationship with a coworker she’s ostensibly trying to beat out for a promotion? No she doesn’t - boss lady is too boss for that silly drama in real life. But I am a sucker for a story of missed understandings and “does (s)he love me” type confusion, and this is a good one of those if you can get past these people’s emotional baggage enough to enjoy it. (PS: if you are reading this Ms Jimenez, more Wakan please. That’s the secret sauce of these books and I was glad for it here).
Moderate: Infidelity, Miscarriage, Panic attacks/disorders, Vomit, Pregnancy, Abandonment
