When Books Went to War: The Stories that Helped Us Win World War II by Molly Guptill Manning

emotional hopeful informative inspiring medium-paced

5.0

The fact that books inspire people not just to read, but to write about them being read, is a testament to their power.

I was fascinated by the descriptions of soldiers fighting the information displacement of the Holocaust and WWII, and how powerful the books were to all the soldiers. As someone who doesn't enjoy war books, and doesn't particularly like nonfiction, this was definitely one of the best books I've read in a while!

This book was featured at the library, and there was an obvious reason why. The information destruction and denial of history in the current administration is a blatant comparison to Hitler. It makes me want to get more involved with book and literacy education organizations.

I never would have known about the movement to get books into the hands of soldiers if this hadn't jumped out to me on a library display. I don't usually read anything like this, but I'm so glad I did. We have to remember that books and words can truly unite and empower people from all different walks of life in the face of adversity.
