So this disappointed me so much. Why is Cass now a 'proper' 8th Dr companion? This totally undermines the whole point of 'The Night of the Doctor'. The entire point was that the Doctor was willing to sacrifice and die for a complete stranger. Making it so that 8 and Cass have an established relationship, (even if it is an alternate version of her) undercuts this. Not only having Cass join 8 but having Alex (the Dr's great-grandson) join him also undercuts the season finale of EDA season 4. Having a character return from death, (yeah I know it's an alternate version of him) means that I will find it much harder to become more invested in future stories. Also for some unexplained reason, Bliss is missing from this box set and we aren't given an explanation as to why.

I also didn't really vibe with most of these stories, I did really enjoy the second story, 'Vespertine' as that felt like it was actually telling a story that could have only been told with these characters. The other two stories don't really feel like they needed to have this TARDIS team, let alone be set in the time war.

I kind of just hoped that we would see a proper continuation of the quality of volume 4, with the characters from that box set, but hopefully the rest of this range actually gives some quality stories.
