I want to read an entire book about Maggie and Arthur, my favorite characters in the story. Needed more queerness. I also felt like the lead was unbelievably naive and trusting in the system. I was infatuated with this book for the first half and the second half, where it suddenly turned into a spy thriller with constant reveals and eroticism, really lost me. I much preferred the first half’s chill comedic time travel character-driven section over the tedious plot work at the end. I found myself rooting for all the side characters the entire time. I’m still unpacking what this is trying to say about colonialism and climate change and historic rhetoric, which are all topics I love, but require more space and breathing room. By the end the main character felt like a villian, and I was rooting for Simellia.
