Building A Story Brand by Donald Miller

4.0

When I first started marketing for the UNCG Libraries I think the way I was able to connect with students so immediately was I thought about the things that would draw them in and make the libraries inviting and informative.

After reading this book I realized that I really was creating a story for the kids to be the heroes and the library to be their guide. And that’s exactly what Donald Miller calls us to do here with our customers.

I loved how this book takes something that could be daunting and scary and turns it into easy to understand and easy to follow steps that turn most marketing strategies on its head. Marketing doesn’t have to be about manipulating the customer into spending money but instead about the core of what every business should focus on, how can I help solve a problem?

Now, personally, I could do without ALL the movie references. Haha some were fine but I found it a bit overkill after a while. I was able to skip around a bit since I’m also reading another of his books for work but all in all I think this book is great for reframing your customer or prospect or whatever you call it as the hero and focus of your marketing efforts.

Also, free on Kindle Unlimited. So no excuses.
