The Castle by Franz Kafka

4.0

Unsettling, frustrating and horrifying. Very claustrophobic. The characters and setting were well-described and easy to imagine. There were a few sections towards the end of the book which I found hard to get through, but overall it held my attention and I enjoyed it. Sometimes funny in a bleak miserable way. Of course it’s unfinished, but my copy had an introduction which explained briefly what Kafka had allegedly planned for the ending, i read it and was not remotely surprised, of course it’s the most depressing outcome possible.
