Crossed by Emily McIntire
4.0
Crossed is a deliciously dark and dirty book that draws inspiration from the tale of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I've not previously read the original book or seen the Disney adaptation. So this was an entirely new story for me. The list of kinks I didn't know I had has undoubtedly grown after reading this, and priests have definitely been added. Cade and Amaya's tension and chemistry kept me turning the pages, eagerly anticipating what was going to happen next. I couldn't be happier that they finally received the happily ever after that the three of them deserved. This is a slow burn, but once the action began, it didn't stop. The book didn't seem to catch up until around the 70% mark, though. I will admit that, as a result, the final stretch felt a touch rushed. I'm going back to read the first four books in this series because I just loved the concept of the villain getting the girl.
“She may be your wife, but she is my soul," I whisper against his ear. "And I will cut you up piece by piece and burn your empire until it's soot, just so I can watch her be queen of the ashes.”
