I loved the concept of Weyward - the power of female connection across generations - and the world the author built was framed by moments of really beautiful prose. However, I sometimes felt like the writing fell into stereotypes of feminist thought about witchcraft instead of exploring the nuances of it. Men are bad and women are magical is 100% true (hehe) and a great start for the story, however, I felt the concept could have pushed further to integrate more depth and complexity to the stories. I also couldn't get over the fact that it felt like the author wanted violets storyline to be set in the Victorian/Edwardian period rather than the 1940s.
