Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi
5.0

there is something just so cathartic about reading the sharpest, most painful, yet most accurate observations about a character you know could be you. i’m not usually one for character-driven novels, but this one got me — probably because i know i am jayne and june all at once.

choi’s writing is so beautifully descriptive of such ugly things and that juxtaposition was so enticing. it was straightforward, while also vague enough to let you infuse your own life into it and feel like you could be in jayne’s world.

i found myself on every page drawing a parallel to my life, my family’s dynamics, and wanting to highlight almost every section. i just love feeling so seen, even if being seen in a book like “yolk” means admitting my flaws and being deeply hurt.

wowwwwww wow wow i wanna call my parents and my sister now
