Serenading Heartbreak
by Ella Fields
“Not worthy,” he whispered. “But I’ll probably keep trying to take you anyway.”
I am a person that revels in heartbreak. I love books where one of them gets heartbroken by the other MC i.e. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. Is this book like that? Sorta.
This book is a NA that has a love triangle, tons of angst, poetic music, some great side characters, and addiction involved. The story flow is great. Not one blanking moment of long ass narratives and internal thoughts.
We get to view this in Stevie a.k.a. Clover a.k.a Petal -depends on which dude was involved. Love triangles, usually, bring out the most annoying MCs but not Stevie. I didn't hate her in the end like most LTs.
The growth in the characters was also not glaringly obvious and that we get to ease in along with it. I only realized that when I was close to the end. Everett(Clover dude) has been drinking since he was underage and ultimately, was almost his demise. Addiction was sort of a big factor in this story and I liked how it was managed and addressed well.
I'm not sure if I'm into Lts but this one was done so well that I actually enjoyed it. Felt for the bro that wasn't it in the end but I liked who she ended up. I thought I would hate the other guy when he came in but I fell in love as Stevie did.
“I need all your goodbyes and every hello. Don’t fucking deprive me of you.”
