The Lost Girls
by Sonia Hartl
DID NOT FINISH: 28%
Lots of info dumping. The main character will monologue her past in her head while in the middle of a conversation with another character. I can only imagine they are standing around awkwardly in silence for ten minutes waiting for her to reply which does give me a laugh.
Aside from that the plot holes are pretty big already this early on. The girls are all 16 and so Holly still works a dead end job at Taco Bell because she can’t work a better job at 16. Why not pretend she’s 18 or 19? No one would bat an eye at a few year difference. Lots of 18 year olds look exactly the same as 16. I know people in their 30s that look 16… it’s not unheard of. You might think okay maybe Holly struggles to find a good fake ID (You think she’d figure that out in 30 years but whatever.) but then after she needs to get a new job she casually shrugs and says oh well I’ll get a new ID from a drunk at a bar. So she’s apparently been stealing adult IDs already? So why is she still telling people she’s 16 while using IDs of people who are at least 21? It doesn’t add up.
