Unteachable
by Elliot Wake
I think Unteachable is a new favorite.....
Okay, so I have this habit/addiction that whenever I read a bunch of really good reviews for a book I'm interested in, I have to buy it. Like, no control, I need that book immediately. Unteachable is a great example of this.
The relationship between Maise and Evan is so unlike any other teacher-student romance, I was completely thrown while reading it. It's realistic, it's rough, and it's so heartbreaking. Maise is so screwed up, but I found myself relating to her in so many ways. That internal feeling of maturity and intelligence over all my high school peers, while not the most positive outlook, is so relatable.
Maise and Evan, are the kind of couple I expected to root for until the end (even though they're teacher and student), kind of like Ezra and Aria. And I did, until I came to the same realizations as Maise. Somehow, though, it made me love the book even more, it was refreshing that they were imperfect and they weren't meant to be.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can see myself reading it again. I recommend this to anyone interested in forbidden romance-type stories!
