Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry

5.0
Heartbreaking.
I added this to my TBR as soon as it was published but never got around to purchasing it. My brother gifted it to me for Christmas this year so I am finally reading Matty’s story.
I’m someone who is a lifelong Friends fan. I’ve watched the show beginning to end no less than 50 times. I turn it on when I’m sad, alone, afraid, need a laugh, for background noise, it was on in the hospital with all 3 births of my babies, etc. Friends has always been such a large part of my life. It is 100% my comfort show. (Adding all this to say I’m a fan & I’m reviewing this as someone who has always been a Chandler girly)
I read & listened to this book (read a little here, listened a little there, you get the point) & it was so interesting to learn about all the behind the scenes of his career. I enjoyed hearing the audiobook in Matthew Perry’s voice. At times, it was absolutely heartbreaking since he has passed away.
This book made me reflect, laugh, Google: different shows, movies, actors, & events that happened before I was born, & this book made me cry. I don’t think a book has ever made me more emotional.
Matthew Perry’s death is the first celebrity death that brought me real & true sadness. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news & shed a few actual tears. I hope he is resting peacefully.
I think if you aren’t a fan you would still enjoy this book learning about the entertainment industry, the way someone with addiction thinks, & some beautiful quotes & words of encouragement.
