would definitely recommend for fans of the romance genre! very convincing setting and all the nuance of rural ireland is spot on throughout the book~
i just don’t know why i keep reading romance novels when i know they’re not for me. the book really draws on the inevitability (or perceived inevitability) of life, in particular the gender roles / traditionalist nature of rural ireland that continues to force its dominance even when someone breaks free from the countryside. unfortunately, i found that inevitability to make the conflicts lacklustre. the emotional impacts felt expected and obvious but it’s clear the author intended for that based on the foreshadowing before every decision.
overall, a good book that wasn’t my thing but is definitely deserving of a read and may well be someone’s next favourite read!
