The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

4.0

The Familiar was my first Leigh Bardugo read and I was amazed by her writing. It is incredibly smooth while still being intriguing and engaging.

This book has a unique magic system layered with a heap of history and a touch of romance, all wrapped up in a Spanish Golden Age wrapper, if you will. Luzia, the FMC, is clever and relatable, and Santangel, the "familiar" is mysterious and brooding (who doesn't love a broody MMC?). On top of all that, the ending of the book is achingly beautiful.
