Blade of Secrets by Tricia Levenseller
5.0

4.5 stars

My first Tricia book! It definitely made me wonder why it had taken so long to pick one up in the first place! I snagged the audio for this one and I definitely give it a two thumbs up!

First off, I was hooked right away by the concept of a woman blade smith! I love anything with a Viking-esque plot device and this was way cool.

Ziva has the ability to embed magical powers into the weapons she creates. She’s one of a kind and is extremely high in demand. The downside? She suffers from extreme social anxiety and social interaction with others besides her sister? Forget about it.

This is a book that takes place on a journey. We get a...

Weapon Maker and her
Brave younger sister
a scholar who is writing a book about magic and
A swoon worthy mercenary.

Each character’s personalities is distinct, yet they mesh so well and keep you entertained. And yes a DOUBLE romance. It’s YA level in the best of ways and I won’t spoil it but it really is root worthy and I can’t wait to see where it goes. The friendships. The slow burn, it’s all quite good.

The best thing about this book was that Ziva — our main character — suffers with social anxiety but she fights to not let that stop her and this is truly a physical journey but also one of personal growth. I haven’t read too many books with a main character who is afraid of social interaction and it made the book all the more unique and powerful when she takes those leaps for the greater good AND for herself.

Being brave is hard, falling in love can be hard but they are always worth it.

I definitely will go on to read book 2.
