The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino
5.0

Oh how I wish I hadn't watched the recent Hindi movie adaptation of this book! I started this amazing piece of murder mystery already knowing the plot twist. And despite that it was an amazing read.

This is what mystery novels should be like. It's realistic, it's fast, it doesn't pull on the threads of believability. The setting is atmospheric, the battle of wits between the two protagonists is sharp. It's also unusual in the way it tackles the mystery, focusing on the 'how', rather than the 'who'. And the murder happening on page almost at the beginning puts the reader in an interesting position. You know 'whodunnit' and now you watch as the detective Gallelio tries to solve it. It's also one of the books where the moral boundaries are blurred and the reader will feel for all the characters, even with their most unfeeling acts. I love it when thrillers dive in character-building.

Highly recommended if you like thrillers. I need to go find myself more books from this series.
