Loputon yö by Alistair MacLean

A page-turner, great combination of mystery, suspense and adventure. Arctic IGY scientists try to rescue survivors of a plane crash and get them to safety through -40°F and worsening weather, meeting some surprises (some deadly) along the way. Nearly a perfect novel; the only flaw for me was how many mistakes the hero kept making in guessing who might be a murderer; but then it wouldn't have been as good if solved too early. As it is, the action reaches a satisfying climax in good time.
